Root Foundation has the honour to partner with numerous reliable and generous organisations, associations, institutions and committees. Through their support, we have been able to offer our children a wide range of activities, events and education.
We are very grateful to:
German Partner School
Our partner school in Germany which was 'Realschule am Kreuzberg' (RAK) until summer 2017 has a ‘Rwanda-workgroup’ supporting our work through various yearly actions. They started in 2015 with a video and photography project and since then the partnership has blossomed with Ursula Wussow leading the project. In 2016, the RAK won a renowned competition - "Gemeinsam für Afrika" (Together for Africa) with this photography project.
With their play "Benefiz auf Augenhöhe" (donating on eye level), the students of the ‘Rwanda working group’ collected €1,250 (approximately 1,100,000 FRW) in 2017. We also arranged a joint Skype call between the children from Root Foundation and the students from the ‘Rwanda-workgroup’. Although the school closed in 2017, Ursula and the ‘Rwanda-workgroup’ continue to support us at the Gymnasium Netphen. We are very grateful for their continuous support and commitment.
Hosted our Fellowship and Cultural Projects
The German cultural institute used to host our monthly Fellowship Discussions. They provided the space, technical equipment and drinks.
In 2016, Goethe hosted our ‘MyTalent Workshops’ including an art exhibition, poem publications, and talks. Through their support of these cultural activities, Root Foundation continues to offer enriching cultural programmes in Kigali.
Christ Church Rwanda
Brett Shreck, Senior Pastor of Christ Church Rwanda (CCR) is a role model for rising present and future Rwandan leaders. He is a key adviser at Root Foundation and has secured several individual sponsorships for our children. CCR has also trained our team through their annual Global Leadership Summit.
German Embassy Kigali
We received financial support from the German embassy allowing Marie Köhler from Germany to conduct the photography workshop “Mach dir ein Bild” (Make a picture) in 2013/2014. Our good relationship with the Ambassador gives us ample opportunities to seek international partnerships through the support of the German embassy in Rwanda. We appreciate their book donations and their support through the Goethe Institute, Kigali.
Rhineland-Palatinate Exchange Office (Germany)
The Jumelage supports our micro projects and events at Root Foundation such as our Football Tournament and My Talent Show. The partner office continuously seeks opportunities to support our work. They are our link to german schools and coordinate two German volunteers to come to Root Foundation each year. This partnership provides ongoing support for our programmes.
Green Hills Academy
Every Friday, students from the Green Hills Academy visit the children at Root Foundation, they play and solve tasks together. This exchange helps children from both Root Foundation and Green Hills broaden each other’s perspectives. In 2017, Green Hills Academy hosted a football tournament where Root Foundation and other local partner schools participated at their grounds.
National Institutes of Museums of Rwanda
Yearly Visits of National Museums
Together with Robert Masozera, the Director of the Institute, we established a partnership of visiting a different museum each year. Our first visit was in January 2017 which was very successful. The trip to the Ethnographic Museum in Huye included a guided tour and free entrance to the museum giving our children the opportunity to understand their heritage.
Africa International Club, Rwanda
Sponsorship of Field Trip
At the end of each year we take our children on a field trip sponsored by AIC to review the year and everyone’s personal progress. We are lucky to have AIC as our ongoing sponsor for this event as they provide the support we need to run this programme.
Eine-Welt-Netz & Volunta
German Volunteer Sending Organisations
Every year, three German volunteers from Eine-Welt-Netz and Volunta support Root Foundation’s work. The volunteers support the expansion, sustainability, and development of new concepts at Root Foundation. The volunteers are well looked after and their work is monitored by these organisations. This partnership is enriching for our Organisation, our beneficiaries and the volunteers themselves.
Kigali Public Library
Every Wednesday is reading day at Root Foundation. All our books are provided by KPL which we are very grateful for.
In December 2016, Root Foundation collaborated with the National Olympic and Sports Committee to organise a Children’s Sports Day. We brought 1000 vulnerable children from different NGO's together to celebrate sport making it our biggest project so far. (See below)
We are very thankful for our long list of partners and sponsors who help make everything we do possible. Their contributions reduce the amount of street children in Kigali and increase their quality of their life. We look forward to continue working with them!
